The 11th Annual GGS Community Forum: Only Weeks Away!
You’re invited to an evening of stimulating speakers, honored guests and innovative ways to promote gun safety when GGS hosts its annual Community Forum on Monday, October 14th on the campus of Rockhurst University.
Building on this year’s theme of Gun Safety: Making Change Happen, the event will include national activist and keynote speaker Fred Guttenberg sharing specifics on ways to mitigate gun violence. Local leaders Jason Kander of the Veterans Community Project and Kyle Hollins of Lyrik’s Institution will discuss how their organizations deal with the effects of gun violence.
In other Forum highlights:
We’re delighted to introduce our Advocates of the Year who will be honored at the Forum:
- Kansas State Rep. Linda Featherston, Individual Advocate
Linda was instrumental in working with GGS and others to introduce legislation requiring gun owners to store their firearms safely. The bill will be reintroduced in January. A Johnson County Democrat, Linda was first elected to the Kansas House in 2020. - Community Christian Church at 46th & Main in KCMO, Organization Advocate
Community Christian Church, in the iconic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building on the Country Club Plaza, has supported GGS and helped sponsor its Community Forum since 2015. The church is affiliated with the Disciples of Christ and has served Kansas City for 134 years.
